With an impressive performance last weekend, the Cougars won the 33rd Annual Doc Buchanan Invitational at Clovis High School. With all of the state's Top 5 teams present, the team used 10 place winners and 2 finalists to score 211 points, enough for first place and 48 more than 2nd place Bakersfield. Tommy Burriel continued his outstanding season, pinning #4 in the state Fito Juarez (Central) at 1:40 into the first period, giving him his first cowboy hat. Zach Nevills was the other Clovis finalist, able to upset state #1 Martin Fabbian of Buchanan in the semifinals before falling in the finals. 8 other Cougars were able to make the awards stand in the toughest Doc Buchanan tournament ever.

On Wednesday night, the team kept their winning ways going with their 34th consecutive dual win in a 59-9 thumping of #6 Clovis East. 11 of 14 Clovis wrestlers took home victories including Ben Omata with a 3rd period fall over last weekend's Doc Buchanan finalist, Patrick Phaysamone. Up next for the Cougars in the TRAC are the #9 Coyotes of Madera who are sure to move up after handing #3 Buchanan a 50-13 loss on Wednesday night. Next Wednesday, #9 Madera visits #1 Clovis in a battle of TRAC unbeatens.
